Mi Casa

Our Story

Mi Casa has been serving the Denver community since 1976

In 1976, seven mothers and one father living in West Denver founded Mi Casa Resource Center®. They did not have a name for it just then, but they had a clear vision of its purpose as a place for women who wanted more for themselves and their families.

In the beginning, Mi Casa offered job-training programs for women to help them break into higher-paying jobs traditionally filled by men.

We expanded in the mid-1980s to offer bilingual business development services to nurture the entrepreneurial spirit of low-income, female, and minority business owners. In the late 1990s, Mi Casa expanded to support the entire family by offering a school-based neighborhood center. Today, we provide our core Career and Business Pathways programs alongside financial wellness, digital literacy, English as a Second Language (ESL), and more to advance economic self-sufficiency for Latinos, women, and low-income participants.

In July 2017, Mi Casa moved to Denver’s Westwood neighborhood. The move to this vibrant Latino neighborhood, along with the state-of-the-art technology and training rooms at the Salazar Center for Family Prosperity, allows us to spend our resources on what matters most: prosperity for the community we serve.

The Salazar Center for Family Prosperity

In July 2017, Mi Casa Resource Center® moved its headquarters to the Westwood neighborhood in Southwest Denver. A lead gift of $1.5 million from the Salazar Family Foundation was critical to the success of Mi Casa’s capital campaign.

In recognition of the family’s contributions to Mi Casa and their outstanding impact on Denver’s philanthropic community, Mi Casa’s headquarters were named “Salazar Center for Family Prosperity.”
The Salazar Family Foundation, founded in 1999 by Rob and Lola Salazar, is focused on supporting organizations that improve the quality of education for Denver residents.

Lola Salazar grew up in Southwest Denver and attended Lincoln High School near the new Salazar Center for Family Prosperity. She said, “This is my old neighborhood. This is where I first aspired to achieve my goals and dreams. I am excited to see the redevelopment of Westwood and the impact Mi Casa will have on families so they can also aspire to achieve their goals.”

The Salazar Center for Family Prosperity utilizes training rooms with state-of-the-art technology, breakout spaces for individual consulting, and flexible workspaces for staff. The art and décor represent the organization’s Latino heritage.

Mi Casa is proud to have interior murals designed and painted by Carlos Frésquez, a nationally renowned Latino artist.
